About the Course

This course provides instructors with a structured overview of the commercial drone industry, technical operations, and real-world applications.  The course helps instructors move beyond basic drone familiarity and develop a broader understanding of how drones are used in industry for data collection, mapping, inspection, analysis, and decision support.  It is built to support educators who need to teach UAS concepts clearly, confidently, and in alignment with workforce expectations.


Course Structure  

Part 1: Industry Foundations  Modules 1–9 introduce instructors to the commercial drone landscape, workforce opportunities, regulatory considerations, career pathways, business applications, and real-world use cases.  Topics include:  - Today’s drone industry landscape - Commercial applications and opportunities - Career pathways in UAS and geospatial technology - Regulatory and compliance considerations - Professional development planning - Real-world case studies and industry examples  

Part 2: Technical Operations  Modules 10–14 introduce the technical foundations instructors need to understand when teaching modern drone operations.  Topics include:  - Remote sensing and GIS fundamentals - Introduction to thermography - Vegetation indices and multispectral imaging - Advanced airspace management - Professional mapping with DJI Pilot 2

Bonus Module: Professional LiDAR Workflows  The course also includes an introductory professional LiDAR module covering:  - DJI M350 RTK platform awareness - Zenmuse L2 sensor concepts - LiDAR data collection considerations - Point cloud workflow basics - Integration with photogrammetry - Surveying and infrastructure applications
